Topographical Land Surveys

Linear Surveys Ltd undertake topographical site surveys using the latest Leica Total Station and GPS survey technology, we are able to provide our clients with cost effective, highly accurate and detailed survey information.

The scale of the survey plans and the level of detail collected are tailored to the specific needs of the client.

Using dedicated land survey software LSS by McCarthey Taylor Partnership and AutoCAD we are able to provide both 2D and 3D information for input into most other systems.

Final survey drawings can be supplied as hard copies on paper or film medium. Digital information can be provided in either 2D or 3D in file formats such as DWG, DXF, MOSS and most other system formats.

Measured Building Surveys

Measured building surveys are available using traditional methods of establishing fixed exterior and interior control points then internal measures throughout the building or structure using Disto and hand tapes.

Our building elevation surveys are accurately measured on site by modern up to date Leica Laser Distance Measuring equipment.

This type of equipment has an enormous advantage where the points to be measured may be inaccessible or impossible to reach such as tower blocks or on churches facades. The Reflectorless Laser Measuring Equipment is accurate to 2mm over a distance of 200m and can safely be used on buildings in public places.

The surveys are available in the following formats LSS model file, LSS load file, AutoCAD .DXF or DWG and MX MOSS Genio.

Setting Out

When a site layout design has been established, we appreciate how critical it can be that this information is accurately transferred onto site.

Our surveyors can set-out points on site as required, using the engineers’ design drawings and design co-ordinates. By using control points and high precision survey equipment we can set out any area of site quickly and accurately. Also utilizing GPS equipment we are able to set out in remote areas such as for estate fence lines or wind turbines etc. We work closely with site managers, to provide a reliable, flexible back-up service, to set-out further phases of the works as and when required. Recent projects include the setting-out of gridlines and steel positions for a new brewery building in Lancashire.

Volumetric Calculations

Linear surveys staff have worked extensively with mineral/quarry owners, muck shifting companies and brick manufacturers affording over 10 years experience in carrying out detailed geological modelling on:

  • Stockpiles

  • Muck Shifts

  • Soil strips

  • Overburden Strips

  • Mineral Extraction

  • Cut and Fill Balances

  • Restoration

Our staff have been trained in using the latest in 3d modeling software to always be confident in reporting accurate volumes every time.

Geological Modelling

With the aid of 3d modeling software to hand, Linear Surveys offer the option of 3d Geological modeling. With the aid of borehole information we are able to model any strata detailing thicknesses and slopes where minerals exist underground. From the 3d geological models we are able to:

  • Calculate reserves of minerals

  • Design feasibility schemes to extract minerals

  • Produce working schemes with volumes calculations to any strata identified

  • Remediation and restoration

  • Coal exploration and extraction

Subsidence & Deformation Monitoring

Ground movement can cause damage to buildings in a number of ways: for example, by shrinkage or heave of clay soils, landslip, mining instability and settlement of filled sites. Movement may need to be monitored to confirm that ground movement is the cause of damage.

We can carry out precise level monitoring using the methods set out in the BRE digest 386 to provide accurate movement over time graphs for the property.

Our Leica NA2 Automatic Level with micrometer attachment allows measurements to be recorded to the nearest 0.01 mm.

Deformation surveys are used to measure whether or not a specific area of land or structure is moving or changing shape. A deformation survey shows a change in measurements and alterations of shapes and dimensions of the land or structures.

Deformation can be caused by a variety of stresses - both natural and man-made. This can include landslides, earthquakes, sinkholes and man-made structures.
